Misal Pav
Misal pav is a popular dish topped with potato-chiwda mix, "farsan" or "sev", onions, lemon and coriander. An evening snack, it can be found on most street corners in Maharashtra. The Kolhapuri misal pav is the spiciest of them all and the best kind can be eaten at Khasbaug Misal and Bawda Misal, both within Kolhapur city limits.
Pav Bhaji
Every Mumbaikar’s favourite dish, pav bhaji is a street-side staple. The spicy bhaji teamed up with buttery bread make for a perfect meal at any time of the day. In Mumbai, Juhu beach is the best spot to enjoy the dish with views of the sea.
Puranpoli
The sweeter version of a paratha, this bread dish is stuffed with jaggery and yellow gram and tastes divine. Pune is a great place to get this and it is usually eaten during festivals and occasions.
Vada Pav
The Indian version of a burger, the vada pav is a great on-the-go snack. Street stalls are in every nook and corner of most Maharashtrian cities. Mumbai’s Anand Stall and Shivaji Stall have some of the best ones in the city.
Ragda Pattice
Another street special, Ragda Pattice resembles the North Indian aloo chaat. Mumbai’s Kailash Parbat at Sheela Mahal in Colaba is worth a try.
