Peru's cultural past is weaved in with the Inca civilization and is best demonstrated through the Inca remains in Machu Picchu. But there is a whole lot more that has gone in making this country culturally fertile—from folk art to archaeological complexes, Peru is a mixed bag of everything.

The heritage of Peru captures the spirit of the country's ancient past with the multitude of civilizations, and Spanish colonization. Other than these, Peruvian cities are a treasure trove of the nation’s historical past. Lima became the capital for the Spanish Viceroy in 1535 and what remains is a great number old cathedrals to colonial mansions. Art in Peru has been an important part of its culture for thousands of years dating back to pre-Inca times. Native Amerindians still spin cotton, llama, alpaca and sheep wool into yarn and weave the yarn into cloth that will be used to make clothing and other textile. This art can be found in all the major cities and the smaller villages of the country.
