While everything about Indonesia seems to be touristy, there is still a slice of peace and quiet left in the country, away from the ever increasing touristy things to do. Temples, Waterfalls, Monuments, Villages – take your pick.

If you have always dreamt of travelling to the equator, you can do that in Indonesia. However, if you prefer staying in a jungle next to a waterfall or in a rainbow coloured village, that is an option too. And then there is a mini St. Basil’s in the middle of the country. Indonesia is home to countless little things that are off the typical tourist trail, and it is here that you meet and see the real country.

A bike trail from the town of Jogja to the Borobudur temple complex through paddy fields and open skies is a great way to discover the country, its charming little settlements and simple people. A walk in the Sultan’s palace meanwhile will ensure you get a glimpse of the modern history. And standing at the equatorial monument in the shadow less sunlight even as the sun reaches its zenith on the Equinoxes is an experience you will get nowhere else.
