The very mention of Assam brings to mind the delightful blend of culture, heritage, faiths and beliefs of the innumerable ethnic tribes and sub-tribes that form this people. Despite so many variations, the people here live in perfect peace and harmony - a unique trait seen only in this part of the world.

Assam’s people live in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society and speak over forty languages. This diversified culture of Assam is a result of the different dynasties and empires that have resided in this region in different eras, influencing its traditions, festivals, music, dance and literature. These elements are all interwoven into its social fabric and cross all barriers of caste, creed and religion. This land is also a place of legend, myth and mysticism, and the stories associated with its various temples and monuments are worth recounting. An interesting place to visit to capture the original ethos of the region is Majuli Island, where Assam’s cultural soul resides. Unfortunately, this island is slowly eroding and is expected to be declared uninhabitable in the next two decades.
